Ask yourself, what do I want to achieve as a drummer? What are my goals? When we ask ourselves the things we want from anything in life and then physcially write it down it becomes much easier to achieve those things. Common answers include:
Greatest drummer of all time? A thousand different people will give a thousand different answers. Undeniably one of the finest drummers of all time was the notoriously demanding Buddy Rich. Stick with him, to the untrained eye some parts of his tracks can appear monotonous, either try to appreciate his pure precision or wait for the explosive solos. Anyway, where was I? Yes. What did he do? He danced! From a ridiculously early age Buddy Rich danced. So I thought I’d try it.
Steve White recommends cycling for low impact cardio to increase his endurance while playing. Road running is fantastic exercise, the problem is that it can be very damaging to the knees. Medium cardio exercise a few times per week keeps Steve in good shape for his performances.
As far as the human race is concerned we have only become aware of our own - evolution very recently. We know that we can learn and develop. That’s what we have done taking up the drums, that’s what we did when we went to school. Evolving is pretty much the thing humans, in fact any living organism does. Remember hearing the scaremongering newspapers reporting about super bugs?
“Well, with the Chilli’s we are fortunate enough to have our own chef so we can request pretty much anything we want. I eat a lot of nuts, cashews, almonds and brazil nuts. They are good for your joints.” Chad also like his fish stating he eats a lot of shrimp, (yes, shrimp are prawns) lobster (the chef comes in handy here) and other white fish. Again, the oils are really important for our joints. Have you ever though about how much more our joints move in comparison to those of the average human being?
Food types and their benefits
Let’s break this down fairly simply to make sure we all understand the differences of the food types and what we can do with them. Broadly speaking we have proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Each of these food types can be split further.
I’m going to keep this short and sweet:
Firstly what is speed drumming? Speed drumming is playing as fast as possible whilst maintaining a structured rhythm.
The principles of speed drumming are great for building speed, stamina and pretty much nothing else!
